VETASSESS Changes For Ph.D. Students

VETASSESS is Australia’s leading Vocational Education and Training (VET) skills assessment authority for migration as well as national skills recognition. As per the latest announcement, VETASSESS has made little changes in their skills assessment criteria, which may affect the students who are doing Ph.D. in Australia and abroad. W.e.f. from 15th December 2018, VETASSESS is not going to receive a full scholarship or stipend as work experience in order to receive one-year work experience for a skills assessment or for work experience points. This was a radical change and surely going to affect numerous Ph.D. students along with the ones who wish to start or continue their careers such as University Lecturers and Scientists. The applications who submitted before this date will continue to evaluate under the same criteria which were placed at the time of lodgment.

The Ph.D. applicants holding full scholarships will have to get paid work experience in their respective field after completing their Ph.D. In case, you failed to lodge your case prior to 15th December, you have to earn work experience in your respective field in Australia itself or overseas.

If you want to gain work experience in Australia after finishing your studies, you have a plethora of ways. For most of the Ph.D. students who are studying in the country can gain work experience via applying under Subclass 485 visa. Ph.D. graduates might be eligible to apply for a Subclass 485 visa for the time period between 18 months and four years depending at what time you first studied in Australia.
