John McCallum (Minister of Immigration, Canada) established Canada immigration Plan 2016.
He wishes to increase immigration to Canada compared to its present level of immigrants. Rising immigrant population can control country’s need for skilled labor. It will be furthermore helpful to manage the increasing problem due to an aging population.
Recently, during a speech to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Mr. McCallum said, “So why not substantially increase the number of immigrants coming to Canada? And that is, I think, I hope, what we are about to do . . . the direction in which I would like to go is to increase substantially the number of immigrants” in Manila, Philippines.
Canada Immigration Plan 2016
The Liberal government of Canada revealed its immigration plan for 2016 recently. Canada will invite near 300,000 new skilled international immigrants residents this year, which is the highest immigration record till date. It will be an increase of 7 percent when compared to the 2015 plan
The Canada Immigration Plan 2016 is just the starting of government’s larger plans. There will be a 3 year immigration plan for promotion, innovation and economical growth of Canada. However, no final decision has been made yet. McCallum mentioned that he has to convince his cabinet colleagues, as well as the Canadian population.
During his Asian tour, McCallum visited to Beijing. There he stated that the Canada government will increase the number of visa offices in China. This will increase Chinese visitors, workers, students and skilled immigrants in Canada.
Before the end of 2016, McCallum’s department will make a number of other changes. Modifications in the Canadian Citizenship Act and Temporary Foreign Worker Program will be made.
