The cabinet minister Seamus O’Regan has decided to double the target for foreign immigration to Newfoundland and Labrador. O’Regan is the the Minister of Veterans Affairs and a Member of the Parliament in Canada. He intends to increase the current target of 1700 immigrants to 4000 by 2020 and has also talked to Canada’s Immigration Minister for the same.
He has taken this step to overcome the social effects of Newfoundland and Labrador’s shrinking tax base from getting worse than it already is. With the blend of rapid out migration and with higher level of people in the old age homes as compared on the streets he decided to take this step.
As per his words he believes that” We need a minimum of 4,000 new immigrants a year in this province just to maintain the status quo,” O’Regan said. “But I’m not interested in maintaining the status quo. I’m interested in growing this economy. I’m interested in more jobs, in higher profits, in increased prosperity — and that means more immigrants. A lot more.”
After careful assessment of the future market situation the government of Newfoundland and Labrador gathered that by the year 2025 there will be a 10 per cent decline in the working-age population due to which there will be 35000 less people in the NL Labour Market.
The state is welcoming a increasing number of immigrants and has been doing so for some years now. The numbers started to increase from 546 people in 2007 to 1,122 people in 2015.
O’Regan is taking all necessary steps to make sure that his goal of restoring the economic status of Newfoundland and Labrador should be achieved as soon as possible. He has made sure that all the people who are into businesses can create jobs for all the immigrants who wish to come to the province.
For being able to settle in Newfoundland and Labrador under Canada Immigration-Provincial Nominee Program, the candidate can apply through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and for checking the eligibility requirements the people can refer to the Newfoundland and Labrador Points Calculator 2018 and the Newfoundland Occupations List 2018. If the candidate is scoring 67 points and has a job profile listed in the occupation list then he can file under the Express entry pool where his profile will be then selected for a state nomination by the government. The candidate can also apply for a country nomination under the Federal skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class.
